Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Mise-en-Scene:

The costume of the man on the right is quite ragged and street-like which really connotes the mood of hip-hop so that the readers can understand that this magazine is continuing with this genre. His face is displayed away from the camera which carry's on the whole serious 'hard man' look based on the same concept. One key prop that he has on would be the cap on backwards which like the clothing really does express a big hip-hop feeling and it connotes the whole street lifestyle with this youth look. The setting is outside in a car garage, which is a very good place to represent this genre as would be a likely place for hip-hop fans to be or to associate themselves with. His non verbal communication is very relaxed and chilled out by the way he is leaning onto the garage, perhaps confident as well from his stance and his hands in his pockets which can also bring up pride.

Anchorage:

The font of the text is very basic and doesn't show much resemblance to the genre of hip-hop - but then again it may be basic as there isn't much going on in the image as well so it could be linked like that. The rest of the text is quite small, but does seem fairly focused on what it contains and the colour and I suppose the mood of the text is very similar to the the actual image which is a good positive feature. All the colours really do go well together and displays more of a serious yet street tone to the reader so that can still acknowledge what the concept still is.

Magazine Conventions:

The main title that is shown is quite small and not too engaging to the reader and it doesn't seem that noticeable - as a title should stand out. But then again, it is matching the whole theme of the calm and cool seriousness of hip-hop with this double page spread. The whole organisation and layout of the three boxes is really neat and well-structured which really does develop well with it's clarity shown on the double page. The text provided underneath the title isn't really that clear as there are white patches on the wall and seeing that the text is in white can be difficult for some people to interpret and can be a disadvantage.
